Gemstone Spotlight: Sapphire

Posted on

Sapphire: The gem derives its name from the Greek sappherios meaning blue. Blue sapphires are the most common and are traditionally associated with wisdom, royalty, divine favor and celestial guidance. It is the stone of integrity. Many cultures prefer a sapphire engagement ring because the stone signifies, loyalty, commitment, honesty, mutual understanding and trust. Associated with the throat chakra, blue sapphire is beneficial to the thyroid and stimulates free expression, speech and communication.

Sapphires come in many colors, including pink, yellow and orange. Different colors of sapphire have additional color energies but all are Stones of Wisdom.

Pink Sapphire brings the wisdom of resilience to one’s life, teaching that true strength lies in the power of vulnerability. A soothing stone, it aligns the heart with the mind, heals wounds of the past and can help develop the courage to be open again to relationships. Yellow sapphire is stone of attracting financial wealth and bringing ideas to fruition. It stimulates the intellect which helps form ideas and goals, then focuses that intent through the Solar Plexus Chakra, “the will center” to manifest those goals. Orange sapphires are associated with Mars and taken their fiery energy from the sun. It boosts sexuality, creative energy and expression of ideas and artistic truths. Sapphire is the birthstone for September.
